Here’s a bit of trivia: Short.io has its own sister company – Rocketadmin.
It’s a completely different service, too – Rocketadmin is a fully-featured, robust, white label admin panel that has been stress tested to effectively manage even the most demanding workloads and complex frameworks.
Even better – it’s fully free and source code available, with pricing extending only to a few, more specialized extra features.
But we don’t just support this other product – we use it ourselves.
Why?
How – and why! – we use Rocketadmin
Our main usage for Rocketadmin is as the data management platform for Short.io users. In particular, as the user database used and managed by our technical support team.
The obvious reasons are that it’s cost-effective and that we’re familiar with it – we know how to set it up in minutes (although that’s one of its strengths anyway), and we can immediately hit the ground running, already knowing how to make use of all its features.
But a cost-effective, familiar software isn’t enough to handle a large database of users and their in-depth management on its own – for context, Short.io has over 1.2 million customers worldwide.
Instead, we’ve made sure that Rocketadmin is as customizable as possible, with multiple ways to tailor it to a functionally endless number of use cases.

As an example, Short.io’s customer support sometimes needs to deal with bad actors – users who either impersonate real companies or otherwise use their domains for fraudulent activities. That results in an instant ban, the latter being a Custom Action – a Rocketadmin feature that allows for the addition of extra functionalities that don’t come standard with the platform. With bans, that’s a Custom Action we’ve developed for our own needs – more on that in a bit.
We also have what are called “Widgets”, which allow users – and us – to enhance data with richer information, making even better use of your database. We use them to visualize whether a user has configured their account or confirmed their email, for example, or what their subscription tier is.
We can also track every change that happens on our platform, meaning we can conduct in-depth audits – super handy to have for customer support, but also available to you to make use of and adapt to your unique scenarios.
These Rocketadmin features are a big part of why Short.io’s technical support team consistently receives positive feedback. But that’s only our use case. What about yours?
What can you do with it?
Like we mentioned above, Rocketadmin is super customizable – this is primarily achieved through Custom Actions, Widgets, Related Items, and AI Insights.
Custom Actions are powerful ways to extend functionality and do whatever you want with a row – maybe you need to create reports, issue refunds, publish content, or assign roles – or anything else. Custom Actions are powerful because they make use of webhooks, meaning you can code them into anything you need, regardless of language. We also provide starting points for some of the most popular languages.
As for Widgets, they’re just as powerful, allowing you to enhance data visualization. Has a product been shipped, or an account updated? You can visualize them with an icon. You want to show your shop’s products? You can display images. Perhaps a student needs to be graded, or someone assigned to a project.
The use cases are as diverse as you need them to be.
Another powerful feature is Related Items, which shows relationships between different data points, collecting them into a convenient set of options that allow you to directly navigate between related tables. For example, for an online store you can trace different users’ orders and addresses, and for a medical facility, you can track diagnoses and prescriptions.
One feature we’re particularly excited about is AI Insights, which can even analyze parts or all of your data for you, providing invaluable aha moments that might’ve taken you hours, months, or even years to discover on your own.

Moreover, Rocketadmin is safe – we self-host it for maximum security, but you can also opt to use it in the cloud, where it’s still compliant with most security protocols. Additionally, we can record changes on our servers for you. If you opt in for that feature, you can also set fields as sensitive, so that they’re omitted from our database.
Finally, you can seamlessly change Rocketadmin to your own branding – it’s completely white label.
We put our full trust behind this project
We’ve outlined most of the reasons we use Rocketadmin ourselves, but the main point is that we developed it to be exactly what we wanted it to be; what we looked around and saw was missing in the industry.
But we didn’t want it to just work for us – we assure you, we could’ve developed an internal admin panel that addresses only our needs with significantly less effort. Instead, we wanted to make it as modular, as user-friendly, and as fully featured as we possibly could. With the addition of Custom Actions, Widgets, Related Items, and AI Insights, we expanded that functionality even further.
Frankly, there are use cases we’re seeing that we could not have even anticipated, and seeing our users make the platform truly their own is the main reason we keep developing it.
At the end of the day, Rocketadmin’s main ethos is exactly that – to be able to make it your own.
