Fighting abuse, together

We built a dedicated portal at abuse.short.io so users and officials can report bad links without filing a support ticket.

Let's keep links honest — abuse.short.io

Links get misused. Not by most people, but enough that we needed a proper system to deal with it.

We do our absolute best to catch abusive users and links, and we mostly get all of them.

But with 300 requests on Short.io every second, it’s difficult to ensure 100% efficiency.

So we also rely on users emailing us to report links we’ve missed.

But that’s not super practical — most people don’t want to waste their time writing emails.

So we built something better.

Enter the Abuse Portal

We now have a dedicated portal for reporting abusive links at abuse.short.io.

It works for everyone:

  • Regular users
  • Government officials
  • Abusers with a conscience

Reporting as a user

If you come across a Short.io link being used for spam, phishing, scams, malware, copyright infringement, or any other abuse — you can report it directly.

The abuse report form at abuse.short.io

Just provide the abusive link, your email, the type of abuse, and some details. After a quick CAPTCHA and email verification, your report goes straight to our team.

Our support team will investigate.

Confirmed violations result in permanent account bans, domain suspension, and link deletion — per our Acceptable Use Policy.

Reporting as a government or law enforcement official

Government sign-in portal at abuse.short.io/govt

Officials get their own dedicated flow at abuse.short.io/govt.

No password needed — just your government email address. You’ll receive a one-time sign-in link, so we know the request is coming from someone with actual access to that address.

Once you’re in, you’ll see all suspended domains within your jurisdiction. Jurisdiction means all suspended domains billed in your country.

From there you can click “Request information” on any domain and submit a formal request.

Request information form

The relevant information will land in your inbox once it’s been processed.

There’s also a general lookup tool

Officials can also click “Look up a domain” to investigate other suspended domains outside their jurisdiction. This makes it much easier to partner with outside administrations.

Why this matters

Whether you’re a user who spotted something shady or an official investigating a case, the Abuse Portal makes reporting faster and easier than ever before.

No more support tickets. Just report and we’ll handle the rest.

Together, we can ensure Short.io stays safe and welcoming.
