New! Generate, customize, and debug QR codes on our website for free
Short.io’s website now has a dedicated Tools section, featuring four brand-new, useful utilities.
All are completely free, and there’s no sign-up required.
The first two we’ve added are “QR code generator” and “QR code debugger.”
Here’s what they do.
QR code generator
This isn't a bare-bones "paste a URL, get a square" tool. Our QR Code Generator gives you real control over how your QR codes look before you download them.

You can customize:
- Color (code, finder, background, and label)
- Finder patterns (square, rounded, circle, drop)
- Corner modes (merged, individual)
- Logo (at the center of the code)
- Error correction (Low 7%, Medium 15%, Quartile 25%, High 30%)
- Label (below the QR code, pill, box)
Download in SVG for print, PNG for digital, or PDF for professional production.
It’s all free and unlimited!
There’s no limit on formats or number of uses. And it all happens client-side. So nothing you do ever leaves your browser.
For developers, the generator is built on our open-source qreator npm module — so if you'd rather generate QR codes programmatically, you can do that too.
QR code debugger
Ever printed 5,000 flyers only to discover the QR code doesn't scan?
Or seen a QR code you’re interested in opening but you don’t fully trust?
The QR Code Debugger is built to solve exactly those scenarios.

Just click on “Choose image,” upload your QR code, and you’ll get tons of relevant, useful information:
- Where it leads
- Metadata (Version, Module size, Byte length)
- Encoding segments
- Pattern corners
- Raw bytes
There are a lot of reasons a QR code might act up. The contrast might be too low, the logo is too large, it’s missing quiet zones (the white margin around the code), or the finder patterns themselves can be damaged.
This tool will help you check and troubleshoot anything that might come up during testing.
Just like with our “QR code generator,” everything happens client-side. The QR code you upload never leaves your browser.
And just like “QR code generator,” it’s all fully free and there’s no limit.
Better together
The two tools complement each other.
Generate a QR code, customize it, then run it through the debugger before you send it out. Troubleshoot anything if needed, tweak the QR code design, and you’re done.
Both tools are completely free and available now at:
And if you need QR codes with scan tracking, geographic analytics, and the ability to change the destination URL after printing — that's what your Short.io dashboard is for.
